Sven Sundgaard - The Sunny Side of your next event! 

Sven was born and raised in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis- St. Paul, Minnesota. He wanted to be a meteorologist since he was 13 years old, fascinated early on by all the atmosphere could produce. Sven received his Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology/Atmospheric Sciences from St. Cloud State University in 2003. While at St. Cloud State he carried out research in thermodynamics, specifically first law of thermodynamics applications to the atmosphere. Sven created a model to forecast temperatures from weather balloon data and forecast atmospheric profiles.

He has worked at the National Weather Service- Twin Cities, and primarily in television. Sven started as a morning meteorologist in Duluth, Minnesota and quickly worked his way up to chief meteorologist after little more than a year. After only a couple years in the business Sundgaard made the almost unheard of jump at to a large market, to KARE-TV in Minneapolis-St. Paul in early 2006 where he is currently employed as a Friday through Sunday meteorologist for the evening newscasts.

Global Warming Issues: What is Global Warming? How is the term misused and misleading? The earth’s atmosphere is a complex and intricate system. Humans may be altering this system. What are the potential impacts and what are some of the current evidence of these changes.

Weather Forecasting: What is the process of forecasting weather. How can understanding forecast accuracy and the process of forecasting help us understand and interpret forecasts in a more useful manner.

Severe Thunderstorms: Wind, Hail, Lightning, and Tornadoes. Nature’s greatest display of instability and lack of balance. The atmosphere is constantly trying to achieve a state of ‘equilibrium’ or balance between its extremes. The sun heats earth unevenly and the oceans distribute heat unevenly. Combine these factors with land features and you get some of the most complex and dynamic weather in the world right here in the central United States.

Hurricanes and Tropical Weather: How do such monster storms form, living for days or even weeks in the planets oceans. How at risk are our nation’s coastlines to these phenomena. A storm that takes a name is a storm to be reckoned with.
