Randy Carey

For More Information Call: 651-735-2080

As a master aquarist, Randy Carey is an internationally published author and photographer for feature-length magazine articles.  Now with corporate sponsorship, he has been speaking across the US and Canada for nearly a decade.  The presentations listed here target the general interests of all audiences.

A recent magazine assignment led Randy to the Amazon on a rainforest expedition.  Having returned with several interviews, dozens of stories, and hundreds of photographs, Randy is preparing a series of articles that parses the complex issues of conservation within the Rio Negro rainforest.  His new talk, Hope within the Amazon, delivers a first hand account of the river, the people, and the issues, complete with illustrative photos.

Randy maintains a studio of 70 aquaria for display and photography, and he has bred about 200 species of tropical fishes.  These are not goals he would have embraced on his own.  In his talk, The Power of a Community, he refers to his fellow aquarists to illustrate how participating within a niche community raises the bar and encourages one to do things he or she normally would not try.

Everyone is drawn to an aquarium.  Randy, an expert in this field, leverages this attraction to deliver visual presentations that comment on life outside of the glass box as well as that within.

Areas of Expertise:

Aquarium

Conservation

Community

Living with Purpose

Target Audience:

Randy’s presentations target the common interests found in most mixed audiences.  An understanding of aquaria is not required to appreciate these talks.

Ideally suited for key-notes, conference sessions, and banquets, Randy has a presentation to serve each of the following objectives:

·        entertaining and informative account of a global issue (Hope within the Amazon)

·        demonstrates how seemingly simple problems often requires complex solutions (Hope within the Amazon)

·        demonstrates the value of participating within a member-based community (The Power of a Community) – example sponsors: Chamber of Commerce, trade organizations

·        rediscover what you value, then realign what you do in life and in work (Why My Hands Are Wet)

·        entertainment that is visual, classy, and memorable (live aquarium set-up)

Top 3 reasons to have Randy as your next speaker:

Highly visual presentation.  Each talk is paced with Randy’s illustrative photography.

Randy draws from uncommon experiences (such as the rainforest and aquaria).  Audiences find this content fresh, original, and interesting.

As a corporate professional Randy is experienced in developing and presenting programs, and as a feature article journalist he is experienced in communicating effectively.

Fee Range:

$1000 - $1500 local to Minneapolis/St. Paul; presentations requiring over night stays or air travel are negotiable.

Program titles:

Hope within the Amazon:  Stories and photos relay a first-hand account of the Amazon’s largest tributary while exposing the important role of people, politics, and economics in preserving the rainforest.

The Power of a Community:  By associating with those who are like-minded, one is impassioned, shown what can be done, and helped to accomplish things he or she would not try if going it alone.

Why My Hands Are Wet:  Randy recounts how he had drifted away from what sparked his interest in the aquarium hobby.  In a watershed moment he rediscovered that spark, tore down his banks of tanks, and built his aquaria studio around what it was that he valued.  This presentation emphasizes that each of us needs to reassess why we do what we do, be willing to make a change, and then embrace those reclaimed values.

Live aquarium set-up:  For something entirely different that people will remember and talk about for some time… Randy will set-up a fully aquascaped aquarium with fish – before or during an event.  Consider this option as added entertainment during a banquet.

Randy is capable of delivering a variety of aquaria-related topics spanning aquarium set-up, stories about tropical fish, visual display (photography, aquascaping), and indoor (aquatic) gardening.
