She was a high school basketball star with a promising college future. But in a split second, her life changed forever. Her dream of playing college basketball was shattered when a drunk driver sped through a stop sign near her hometown of Pelican Rapids, MN. The car crash left her with a broken neck. At 18, she faced life in a wheelchair. But that’s not the end of the story.

Judy Siegle (pronounced SIG-lee) holds records as one of the elite wheelchair racers in the world. She was a member of the US team in the 1996 Paralympics in Atlanta and the 2000 Paralympics in Sydney, Australia. She won two gold medals in the Mexico City PanAm Games in 1999. Siegle holds national records in the 400, 800, 1500 and 5000-meter events for quadriplegic women, and was named 2000 Female Athlete of the Year by USA Wheelchair Track and Field. Her energy and zest for life have touched many. She believes qualities such as courage, wisdom and faith help people cope well with challenges, even during the most difficult times. As she has demonstrated time and time again, though the game may be different...the game will go on.

Judy Siegle is employed with MeritCare in Fargo, ND. In 2005, she authored a book entitled, “Living Without Limits: 10 Keys to Unlocking the Champion in You.” The essence of the book is to respond to challenge.
