Chris
has been guiding wilderness trips for over 20 years. In 2000, she
founded The Wild Institute, offering customized wilderness trips for
women and professional speaking. In 2002, recognizing The Wild
Institute’s growing success, National Geographic Today
did a segment on Chris and The Wild Institute, which has aired
nationally several times.
As a speaker, Chris brings her passion for wild places to
conferences, events, and corporations, deftly connecting nature’s
wisdom to everyday urban life. Topics long discussed in the world of
work are revisited with humor and clarity with the help of sled dog
personalities, images from nature, and memorable stories drawn from
decades of professional leadership experience in wild places.
Her client list
includes 3M, Qwest, G+K Services, College of St. Catherine, Grant
Thornton Accounting Firm, Science Museum of Minnesota, Michigan
Recreation and Parks Association, Clemson University, Wisconsin DNR,
and many more.
An accomplished writer and published author, Chris wrote the book,
Daily Degradations for Women Who Should Know Better: Making Peace
With Our Inner Critic.
She writes an inspirational weekly poem, WILD Thoughts, about our

Testimonials:
Chris's
work on "sled dog wisdom” was creative, engaging, and highly
relevant to the goals of improved communication, teamwork, and
productivity. She captured our attention with the detailed
descriptions of her dogs and the tools of the sled dog trade.
Through the course of her talk, she created a common language for
applying insights from sled dogging to the hard, but rewarding work,
of building a team (in our case, a team of IT professionals). A
great way to start 2005!”
- H. Lamond, Chief Information Officer, G+K Services, a $800M
branded apparel corporation
“Ms.
Heeter performed beyond our expectations and related her speech
perfectly to her diverse business audience. Her speech was a mixture
of education and humor, while encouraging all of us to reach our
full potential by ‘un-busying’ our lives and learning from the
nature around us every day. I’d highly recommend Chris – she brings
a unique and intelligent point of view to any setting. Her quiet
sense of humor is what makes people listen and learn.”
- K. Reutten, Executive Director, Hayward Area Chamber of
Commerce
“Chris’s calm demeanor was just what the administrative
professionals needed after a hectic day. She made us all slow down,
relax, and reflect on what’s important in life. She helped us focus
on the simplicity of using nature as a quick, easy balance to our
very busy lives.”
- J. Juline, St. Paul Chapter President, Int’l
Association of Administrative Professionals
